by Jon and Anna Monday

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT – Here is a link to the first issue of the American Vedantist Newsletter. The entire issue is an article about J.D. Salinger’s life and connection to Vedanta, by Jon and Anna Monday.

A new book and film about Salinger has been released, and for the first time  the author’s connection to Vedanta is revealed. Many people thought he gave up writing in 1965 when he stopped publishing. But in fact he turned inward and concentrated on his spiritual life, reading the Bhagavad Gita every morning and attending classes and retreats at the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center of New York and its retreat facility at Thousand Island Park, New York. Following the instructions of the Gita, he still wrote almost every day, but worked not for the fruit of his action but because it was his Dharma to write. This article in the debut issue of American Vedantist Newsletter reviews the book and explores the life of one of the most mysterious and celebrated authors of our time.
