Where the Starfish Live

Little girl, sitting in the classroom
She hums a tune no one can hear inside her head
She looks outside, she is a thought born by the air
When she returns she taps a foot beside her chair
While on the board the teacher writes the word for “fish”
The little girl closes her eyes and makes a wish
And now she’s gone, swimming underwater now
And breathing easily, she doesn’t even wonder how

And the teacher asks her to say where it is
Tell the class where all the starfish live
And she says…

In my hair… that’s where, that’s where the starfish live
They live there in my hair, I see them in my dreams
Swimmin’ round, my head is the sea and I’m the queen
Of all around me, in there, that’s where the starfish live

Little girl, with such a big heart
She comes out …a little blast, a spark
Of love she shares, she always gives it all
She doesn’t wait like I do …until she falls
And she says…

They’re in my hair… that’s where, that’s where the starfish live
They live there in my hair, I see them in my dreams
Swimmin’ round, my head is the sea and I’m the queen
Of all around me, in there, that’s where the starfish live

Instrumental Bridge

Little girl who lives inside of me
Asked me why, why do you hide me
Please let me out, I want to play
And please don’t cut my hair, it has to stay

Because if you cut my hair, oh, then where, where will the starfish live
‘Cause they live there in my hair I know I hear them in my dreams
Singing songs like the angels swimming in the sea
Of stars above but here below, oh, where will my starfish go?
Where will my starfish go?
Where will my starfish go?
